Photographed in Artsakh, just off the highway returning to Armenia proper.
I asked the driver to pull over and got out of the van and into a field to take this photo. On the way back, the driver and his friend were yelling at me to stop, not move and wait for a donkey. I stood there, puzzled for 20 minutes, not moving. Eventually a donkey was sent to me, and the instructions were to follow the donkey back to the van but stay about 100 meters behind it.
When I finally got in the van, and the donkey was returned I asked what that was all about. The answer was simple; the field had land mines, if the donkey blew up, I’d know to take a different path.
